With its rich industrial past, Grosmont, a former Victorian undertaker`s and joiner`s workshop and 1950’s petrol station, provided an ideal situation for an art gallery. The building was converted some years ago into a gallery and studio. It has now been refurbished, reopening in July 2004 as the Grosmont Gallery and Jazz Café.

The Mistletoe Gallery takes it`s name from the Norse legend of Balder the good and the beautiful, God of the forest and son of Odin. According to the legend his mother, the goddess Frigga took an oath from all the elements and from all living things not to harm Balder, one thing that was omitted from the list was Mistletoe. It was from Mistletoe that the arrow was fashioned with which Balder was eventually killed. |
