Art on the River
Art on the River is owned and promoted by Mary Beaney, an award winning artist who is opening her studio for the twentieth consecutive year as a showcase for her paintings/mixed media work. This exhibition is part of the Eastbourne Festival of Artists Open Studios/Houses. Mary has been diligently extending the theme of By-Gone Days utilising her own photographs both vintage and Victorian found in an inherited Victorian family album. The paintings portray narrative secret undertones described as figurative abstraction using bold yet muted colours Underlying the surface of her work mainly on canvas are layers of various media such as polyfilla, glue, tissue paper, salt, ink, sand - in fact anything that can be collaged and cemented with acrylic paint, with a hint of graffiti. So having said that why don`t you pop along to her studio and see for yourself - there will be lots to see and as a special treat Mary is offering a 20 percent discount on many of her pieces in celebration of 20 years of opening her studio as a friendly and welcoming exhibition space, as well as other surprises. Mary says you won`t be disappointed. Exhibiting alongside Mary is wildlife photographer Adam Beaney - truly creative with the X factor inspired by nature. His natural talent and eye for composition captures that fleeting moment resulting in stunning imagery of life in the wild - ethereal images of the Sussex countryside, the mighty Tundra of the Arctic and the mesmerising animals of Africa. Come and view the magical world of nature through the eyes and lens of Adam's camera. Why not make a day of it - Real affordable quality art at Haven Farm, culture at Pevensey Castle, and refreshments at the newly refurbished Priory Court Hotel - opposite the Castle. Look out for the balloons!!!!! Open 11.00am to 5.00pm on 20, 21, plus 26, 27 April , plus 3, 4, 5 plus 10 and 11 May, 2014. Tucked away in an indoor Edwardian arcade in central Eastbourne, between a nail salon, a florist and a barber, our (tiny but quirky) Project Space & Art Gallery seems an unlikely venue for contemporary art – but we believe it is its incongruity that makes it work. The space is particularly suited to installation art and we want it to be a platform for new and ambitious work. We invite artists to develop site-specific work and support artistic practices that involve 'making' within a contemporary critical framework. We are particularly interested in work that could provide fuel for discussions on the interplay (or perhaps disjunction) between 'making' and 'thinking'.
